THE MAKER
Angie Reyes grew up surrounded by the desert. The humbling austerity of this quiet, barren landscape served as a central influence for her work long after she left home, and continues to be a source of inspiration she draws from today.
She earned her BFA in sculpture from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa with concentrations in metal and glass.
Angie strives to create her work with particular attention to the values of clean line and hollow composition, culminating with her fascination of the interplay between interior and exterior spaces. She believes that utilizing sterling silver as her primary material compliments this aesthetic in that it is a bright yet modest metal, neither outshining nor detracting from form. Each piece she crafts is with the intention for everyday use; thus, timelessness and durability are attributes she meticulously seeks in each of her pieces as well.
After years of working as a bench jeweler in Honolulu, HI, Angie began handcrafting her own line, Franny & Metal, in her home studio upon relocating to Austin, TX in 2014.
THE PROCESS
All Franny & Metal jewelry is designed and assembled by Angie in her home studio. Creating designs with recycled materials acquired through sustainable, ethical means is a top priority, as is transparency of process.
Casting:
Franny & Metal pieces contain components that are first designed and carefully fabricated by Angie in her studio. They are then hand-cast with recycled sterling silver using the lost wax casting method by a trusted small business located in the northeast USA. Angie inspects, cleans, solders, polishes, and assembles all castings into each and every Franny & Metal offering.
Plating:
Franny & Metal so loves and respects her small business plating partner, also located in the USA, for all nickel-free, 18k vermeil plating.
ALL FRANNY & METAL PIECES ARE MADE IN THE USA.
